Business Units

Technology Business Unit

Our technology-based business, UQM Technologies, Inc., consists of the development and application of our proprietary brushless permanent magnet electric motor, generator and power electronic control technology to customers’ end products. Services include feasibility studies, specification evaluation, custom motor design and engineering, power electronic control design and engineering, software development and full integration services. We also manufacture and sell motors and electronic controls with ratings from 500 watts to 100 kilowatts (2/3 horsepower to 134 horsepower).

Power Products Business Unit

We manufacture proprietary electric motors and electronic products at our wholly-owned subsidiary, UQM Power Products, Inc., located in Frederick, Colorado. UQM Power Products’ motor manufacturing operations currently consist of the final assembly of UQM® permanent magnet propulsion motors for a vehicle auxiliary system, wheelchairs, compressor drive motors for fuel cells and fan blower motors used in the air conditioning system on a military aircraft. Our motor manufacturing operations are ISO 9001:2000 quality certified, and over 39,000 motors have been manufactured and fielded since the launch of volume production operations in April of 1998. In addition, we operate a refurbishment program for used motors where critical parts are replaced and the refurbished units are sold through a service parts program.

Our electronic manufacturing operation currently consists of the final assembly of dc to dc converters for hybrid electric vehicles and proprietary motor controllers.

It is our strategy to transfer proprietary products from our technology segment to UQM Power Products upon attaining volume levels sufficient to justify the investment in manufacturing tooling and machinery.
