UQM Technologies Products Power Under-the-Hood Auxiliary Systems on Upgraded General Dynamics Hybrid Electric Reconnaissance, Surveillance and Targeting Vehicle

FREDERICK, COLORADO, MARCH 2, 2006... UQM TECHNOLOGIES, INC. (AMEX:UQM) announced today that it is supplying motors and electronic controllers to General Dynamics Corporation for use on their hybrid electric Reconnaissance, Surveillance and Targeting Vehicle (“RST-V”).  The UQM® components include a permanent magnet motor and electronic controller that power and manage the operation of an engine compartment cooling fan and an electronic controller that manages the operation of power steering and fluid coolant pumps onboard the vehicle.

The RST-V is a 4 x 4 hybrid electric drive vehicle with reconnaissance, surveillance, targeting and C3I (command, control, communications and intelligence) capability coupled with integrated stealth and survivability features. The vehicle can be equipped in a range of mission variants including: forward observer, forward air control, reconnaissance, light strike, battlefield ambulance, air defense, logistics, and personnel carrier.

The components are being supplied as part of a $5.9 million USMC / General Dynamics Land Systems program to upgrade the RST-V by making functional and reliability changes.  As part of this upgrade effort, a UQM® motor was selected to drive the cooling fan, in addition to the two UQM® electronic controllers that have been onboard the vehicle since the program’s inception.  The cooling fan driven by the UQM® motor has demonstrated a 30 percent increase in output airflow over the motor originally used on the vehicle, improving its ability to operate in higher ambient temperatures such as may be encountered in a desert environment.

“We are pleased that General Dynamics has expanded the content of UQM® products in the upgraded RST-V,” said William G. Rankin, UQM Technologies’ President and Chief Executive Officer.  “Our systems consistently deliver power, size and efficiency advantages over competitors’ products enabling enhanced performance of our customers vehicles.  The RST-V is one more of a growing number of robust hybrid electric military vehicles incorporating UQM® products.”
