Integrated Systems Development

Our engineering staff works with its customers in the development of their commercial products through the application of our advanced proprietary technologies. We provide our customers with much more than a designed component. Typically, a customer’s project requires application engineering support and the simultaneous design of a motor/generator, power electronic controller and control software as an integrated system. By providing all of these services, we offer customers a single source for an optimized solution. The result is a UQM ® custom system designed to the customer’s demanding product specifications.

In addition to the variety of computerized tools used to design motors and generators, power electronic inverters, gearsets and software systems, our engineers also use Simulink/MATLAB for complete integrated system design and analysis. This sophisticated simulator allows multiple components and subsystems to be modeled, including their interface and interdependencies, to ensure an optimal integrated system solution.

Some of the integrated products that we have developed for our customers include:

Starter/motor/generator This 42 V starter/motor/generator was originally developed and integrated into the flywheel of a large diesel engine. Since the original development, we have integrated this unit into engines on several vehicles.
	Compressor motor To reduce weight and save space, this variable speed air conditioning compressor motor integrates the controller into one end and a gear reduction into the other end.
Fan motor To minimize size, weight, and electromagnetic interference (EMI), this auxiliary fan drive system integrates the motor and controller into a single unit.
