UQM’s power laboratory accommodates the testing of motors, generators, and controller electronics. Four separate dynamometer setups are capable of testing systems from fractional horsepower motors to 250 kW motors and generators for large electrified vehicles. The largest dynamometer is capable of testing systems rated for up to 300 kW of output power. The dynamometers use high accuracy torque transducers, the HBM T12, which has an accuracy of 0.01% relative to its full scale torque rating. Combined with other precision measurements, these test cells are used to generate accurate efficiency and heat rejection maps of UQM systems. In addition to dynamometers, UQM has on-site thermal chambers, providing the ability to operate systems at extreme temperatures.
